2007 Lotus Elise

Colin Blackburn has always loved cars and motorcycles. Growing up, his family had several and he's carried on the tradition. Here he shares his 2007 Lotus Elise with Hands-on Transportation.

Lotus Cars Limited is a British automotive company headquartered in Norfolk, England. It manufactures sports cars and racing cars noted for their lightweight and fine handling characteristics. Lotus was previously involved in Formula One racing, via Team Lotus, winning the Formula One World Championship seven times.

Lotus Cars was founded and owned for many years by Colin Chapman. The company was formed as Lotus Engineering Ltd. by engineers Colin Chapman and Colin Dare, both graduates of University College, London, in 1952, but had earlier origins in 1948 when Chapman built his first racing car in a garage. After Chapman's death and a period of financial instability, it was bought by General Motors, then Romano Artioli and DRB-HICOM through its subsidiary Proton. It is currently owned by Chinese multinational Geely. (adapted from Wikipedia)

The Lotus Elise is a two-seat, rear-wheel drive, mid-engined roadster conceived in early 1994 and released in September 1996 by the British manufacturer Lotus Cars. The Elise has a fiberglass body shell atop its bonded extruded aluminum chassis that provides a rigid platform for the suspension, while keeping weight and production costs to a minimum. It is capable of speeds up to 240 km/h (150 mph).[5] The Elise was named after Elisa Artioli, the granddaughter of Romano Artioli who was chairman of Lotus and Bugatti at the time of the car's launch. Another red race car gets in a heap of trouble when he speeds. 2:52 Must watch for all ages.

A review of the Lotus Elise that's a little longer and more in-depth than the one with Colin. Better for older kids and adults 8 minutes.

So good it was banned. A 2:10-minute video about the Lotus 88 Formula 1 car.
